A Brief History of the Creatures

In 1980, Siouxsie & the Banshees were in the studio working their third album "JuJu". A couple of members of the band had decided to take a couple of days off, which left Siouxsie and Budgie in the studio alone where they started playing around with different sounds. This was a precurser to the Creatures first recording session in May of 1981. This was the same year that saw the release of the 7 inch single of "Wild Things" named after 'Where the Wild Things Are' by the writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak. This was the first official Creatures release.

In December of 1982, Siouxsie & Budgie were headed to Hawaii for a "vacation". Two days later they had a couple of ideas for lyrics, some drum sticks, and a tambourine. They left 14 days later with 10 completed songs that would be released as "Feast. They even had time for a photo shoot under a Banyan tree that would be used for the cover of "Feast".

A one off single, a cover of the Mel Torme classic "Right Now" was released in August of 1983. Then once again the Creatures were absorbed back into the all consuming Banshees to start working on their new album.

In 1989, after 6 years, 4 big studio albums for Siouxsie & the Banshees and the huge undertaking of the "Peepshow" tour, the Creatures once again surfaced. Siouxsie and Budgie took off on a long road journey through the castle lands of Spain. They settled on a bull ranch in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. It was here that they set up a mobile studio and recorded the second Creatures album "Boomerang". After the release of "Boomerang", they were prompted to embark on a European and U.S. tour in 1990 using using sampling & sequencing technology and two huge drum kits instead of a live band. This tour was the first "live" performance of the Creatures.

After the release of 2 more Siouxsie & the Banshees albums, the Banshees called it quits in 1995 after 15 years since the birth of the Creatures. By 1996, they had cut all ties with any major record company and by 1998 had launched their own record company called "SIOUX Records". In 1999, they released the "Anima Animus" album, toured Europe, the U.S. and Japan as well as several festival shows. Then once again returned to the U.S for 8 Halloween shows entitled the "Trick Or Treat" tour.

They are currently in the studio working on another album scheduled for 2001 release.
